For some swimmers it was the end of the road, but for others, provincials are still left on the schedule.
The Medicine Hat Waves put four athletes on the podium this past weekend at the Steve Brown Memorial meet in Calgary, with three set to continue on for the Alberta finals in two weeks’ time.
Kage Senft had silver medals in the 50 and 100 metre freestyle, plus the 50 butterfly in his 11-under division. Grace Jacobs won her 13-over 200 metre backstroke. Also in girls’ 13-over, Jaivyn Barabe took silver in the 200 breaststroke. Johanthan Marshall added his own silver in boys 12-13 50 butterfly.
Jacobs, Barabe and Marshall all head to provincials June 14-16 in Calgary.
As for the other local team in town, the Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club totalled 27 medals, including four from relays alone.
The boys team of Jaiden Riddell, Ashton Scholly, Brandt Swaren and Parker Maxwell won both their 4×50 freestyle and medley relays. The girls team of Berlin Mastell, Emily Schlenker, Delrae Vetter and Kristin Hollingworth won 4×50 freestyle, while Schlenerk, Mastel, Vetter and Trinity Shilka were second in the 4×50 medley.
Shilka won 200 breast, 100 and 200 fly and 400 medley in her 16-under division. Vetter won 100 back and was second in 100 fly. Hollingworth added gold in 100 breast and bronze in both 200 breast and medley in a 12-13 group. Schlenker won 200 medley and was third in 100 fly.
Swaren won 16-over 100 and 200 free, plus 50 breaststroke. He was also second in 50 fly. Maxwell won his 400 medley, was second in the 200 medley and third in 50 breast. Scholly won 200 medley and added silver in 100 free. Riddell added a silver in 100 fly.
Other Marlin medallists included Munro Maxwell, who won five medals (gold, 200 fly; silver, 200 free; bronze, 50 fly, 10 0fly and 400 free). Maria Pachan was second in 100 free.
