Medicine Hat and Redcliff KidSport will be receiving $4,500 over the next three years as part of a $450,000 provincial partnership with Pembima Pipeline Corporation. KidSport estimates this partnership will result in 1,800 kids across the province to participate in athletics. The other chapters that will receive funding from Pembina include Calgary, Edmonton, Lac la Biche, Fairview, Fort Saskatchewan, Grande Cache, Grande Prairie, Pincher Creek, Ponoka, Red Deer, Slave Lake, Whitecourt and Wood Buffalo. Another result of this partnership is the creation of the Pembina Indigenous KidSport Fund, which will build upon KidSport’s work in Indigenous communities to ensure they reap the lifelong benefits of organized athletics. “Speaking from personal experience, I know that sports can play such an important role in kid’s life, impacting everything from physical and mental health to relationships and confidence,” said Allan Charlesworth, Pembina’s vice president of technical services. “I’m proud that Pembina has stepped up to the plate with KidSport to help make that benefit a reality for even more youth across our province.” Greg Ingalls, KidSport Alberta’s executive director, says the funds “will change the lives of kids in communities across Alberta.” “The life skills and healthy habits learned through sport will enhance their lives and teach them devices that they will use into their adult years,” he said. 9
