Fox Valley set to begin funding push for new, 500-seat town hall

By Medicine Hat News on May 15, 2019.

A new push to replace the Fox Valley, Sask. community hall will kick off in mid-June with a Roughriders’ Block Party, it was announced last week.

The community of about 250 residents is planning to raise about $500,000 from private and corporate sources as well as grants toward building a new $1.1-million replacement of the existing 60-year-old hall that needs extensive renovation.

That hall can hold up to 300 people, but recently came off its foundation.

In initial plans, about $600,000 for a new hall, which could seat 500, would be provided by the rural municipality that sits about 100 kilometres northeast of Medicine Hat and 60 kilometres north of Maple Creek.

The public kick-off for fundraising will take place on June 13 with the CFL team event that was secured by winning an on-line vote.

Donations of $100 or more are eligible for a tax receipt.

Two elected

Voters in the village of Fox Valley elected two councillors on May 9, officials report.

Donald Schmatlz, with 85 votes, and Sara Martin, with 69, claimed two vacant seats from a field of four candidates.
