Mohawks already off to the races

By Medicine Hat News on May 4, 2019.

Alberta’s defending 4A track and field champions are back at it.

Hat High’s team was in Calgary Thursday for the Dino High School Challenge Red Meet, a chance to get in some competition and start building towards city, zone and hopefully provincial finals.

Orin May had the best result for the Mohawks, placing second in the intermediate boys 100 metre in a time of 11.81 seconds. Lukas Herter was fifth in the same race, in 12.07 seconds, and Kyle Spackman was seventh in 12.14.

Sprints definitely look to be a strong point for Hat High this season as Jayden Smith was fifth in senior boys 100 metre (11.84 seconds), while Gloria Lokbai was seventh in intermediate girls 100 metre (13.73 seconds).

The other top-10 finish was Fallon Maher, eighth in intermediate girls long jump with a 4.35 metre effort.

The city meet is set for May 22, followed by zones in Lethbridge May 30 and provincials in Calgary June 7 and 8.
