The British Army Training Unit Suffield has begun its live-fire training exercises at CFB Suffield. Exercise Prairie Storm 1 will take place from May 3 until June 7. The base’s public affairs officer advises military activities will take place intermittently day and night. Those who live, work or travel near CFB Suffield may hear loud noises or see weapons effects such as flashes of light during the exercises. CFB Suffield Fire Services and the Range Control Field Operations Section are at the ready to fight fires in the training area and neighbouring communities. Concerns can be reported to Range Control at 403-544-4310 or the nearest fire department. Explosive objects such as bombs, grenades and shells are hazardous and members of the public should not pick them up under any circumstances. People are asked to contact police if such an object is found. Lastly, the range and training area is a controlled access area and members of the public who want to use the portion of the South Saskatchewan River that passes through the base should first contact Range Control. 6
