1935 ~ Alvin William “Al” Strobel ~ 2019

Alvin William Strobel of Medicine Hat, passed away on Wednesday, January 30th, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife, Eunice; daughter, Cindy (Bill) Rose; son, Cory (Shelley) Strobel; grandchildren, Brant Rose (Marlaina Eldey), and Taylor (Richelle) Rose, Melissa Strobel; great-granddaughter, Harper Rose; sister, Elsie (George) McQuarrie; brother, Albert (Nina) Strobel; sister-in-law, Anne Strobel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Anna Strobel; daughter, Cheryl Szoke; and brother, Martin Strobel.
Al was born in Kerrobert, SK, on October 12, 1935 and was raised on the family farm near Luseland, SK. After completing his early education in Luseland, he continued on to attend Briercrest College and Seminary in Caronport, SK. After completing his education, Al worked for Co-op for 36 years before retiring in Medicine Hat, AB. He cheerfully volunteered his time to maintenance services for the Whispering Pines Bible Camp over the years in addition to being a member of Gideon’s International for many years. He enjoyed listening to Gospel Music, playing golf, and going for coffee with his friends. Family was very important to Al and he will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so on Friday, February 15th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 1Z5. HUNTER

Jeanne Barbara Hunter of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 11, 2019, at the age of 88 years, beloved wife of the late James Hunter. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Kim (Rick) McClymont and Jan Wigle all of Medicine Hat; four grandchildren, Bjorn Bryhn (Andrea David), Jeanne (Waylon) Smith, Rebecca McClymont (Jon Mitchell), Nicolas Wigle (Keanna Bertin); three great grandchildren, Paisley and Bronson Smith and Oliver Wigle; her sister Doreen Atkinson and her sister-in-law Margaret Taylor, both of Liverpool, England, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Rebecca Taylor; her husband, James Hunter; her son-in-law, Rick Wigle; and seven brothers and sisters. Jeanne was born on May 23, 1930 in Liverpool, England where she was the third youngest of nine siblings. During the war, Jeanne spent her school years in and out of bomb shelters. Jeanne met Jimmy at the age of 14 years where they worked together and they married 10 years later, on July 24, 1954. In 1968, they came to Canada with their young daughters, settling in Winnipeg. Jeanne began working at the King Edward Hospital as a nurse’s aid and continued working there until retiring in the early 1990's. After retiring, Jeanne and Jimmy moved to Medicine Hat to be closer to family. Jeanne’s greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in her home and garden and she enjoyed singing and travelling. She was strong, loving, generous and had a great sense of humour. Jeanne suffered from Alzheimer’s requiring her to be in care for the last 5 years, first at River Ridge and lately at Sunnyview nursing homes. Her family is grateful for the excellent and compassionate care that she received at both places and also to the staff at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital 4W. The family will be celebrating Jeanne’s life in a private ceremony. 1925 ~ 2019
Ruth Elizabeth McAlpine (nee Morin), passed away at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary on Sunday, February 10, 2019, at the age of 93 years. Ruth leaves to cherish her memory: sons, David (Rosella) Morin, Glen (Jan) Morin, Leslie (Lavene) Morin and Ted (Marlies) Morin; daughters, Donna (Gordon) Schroeder and Candace (Kevin) Green; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mable Moller (Peter’s sister) and Mary (Don) Morin as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved 1st husband, Peter Morin (April 1973), 2nd husband, Jim McAlpine (July 2003); granddaughter, Jenene Morin (Nov. 2001); brother, Bill Kozroski (Oct. 2018) as well as her parents, Demetri “Jim” and Grace Kozroski (nee Weaver).
