Medicine Hat News

Facing a Briercrest team fighting for its playoff life, the Medicine Hat College women’s basketball team got the job done.

At Caronport, Sask., the Rattlers beat the host Clippers 89-83 Friday, improving their conference-best record to 15-2.

Katelyn Rozdeba had her highest-scoring game as a Rattler with 23 points, every player who dressed got at least a point and Medicine Hat won its fifth game in a row.

Kiana Mintz hit three three-pointers and wound up with 20 points, while Morgan Muir had 15 points and seven steals to lead the way on both ends of the court.

Briercrest, now 7-9 and needing at least one win against Medicine Hat to keep their playoff hopes alive, was led by Tracy Lewis’s 28 points and 12 rebounds. The Clippers led at halftime but not again after a Mintz three-pointer in the third quarter.

The teams have a rematch Saturday at Briercrest. Medicine Hat has four games left in the regular season.

Men’s basketball

They may have lost multiple players on the roster, but there’s no denying the talent on the Rattlers men’s basketball team.

A week after two more players were suspended, the Rattlers improved to second place in their division with an 87-64 win at Briercrest.

Kieron Burgess had 25 points and 14 rebounds, while Jaamel Slack added 22 points. Medicine Hat improved to 11-6, tied with Ambrose for second spot and looking good to earn a place in playoffs come March.

Nicholas Gregerson and CJ Greer each had 16 points for the Clippers, who are last in the division at 2-14.
