The Tongue on the Post folk music festival is underway and has a number of shows today before wrapping up Saturday.

“It’s been phenomenal so far,” said festival executive director Rob Pape. “The attendance at our cafe shows has been amazing, ticket sales have been great this year, our kiln series is going great and we’re getting close to another sold-out show (Thursday).

“The festival has been great so far and we’re hoping we keep going strong.”

Today kicks off with noon shows at REDI and Station Coffee. Kyle Church plays Cafe Verve at 2 p.m. Jack Humeny plays Madhatter Coffee Roastery at 3 p.m. and at Skinny’s Smokehouse at 6 p.m. There is a free singer/songwriter event at Medalta starting at 7 p.m.

Pape says everyone involved with the show is having a good time.

“We’re hearing good things from the artists and from people in the audience,” he said. “We kicked things off with Twanger Bingo and everyone had a blast with it.

“It’s been fun and it’s just so much fun for us to see everyone out and enjoying the music — it’s why we do this.”

Saturday’s shows all take place at Medalta, including the headliner gala at 6:30 p.m.

“If people are unsure about coming out Saturday then they should come to the free show Friday to get a feel for how the shows might go,” Pape said. “We have a really good program on Saturday and it’s going to be a really great day.

“There’s so much music going on, for the price of one ticket, it can’t be beat when it comes to value.”
