Vickie Sjolie helped take three points in the eighth end to steal a 5-4 victory from fellow Hatter Sandy Bell to open the Curling Alberta Senior Women’s Qualifier in Airdrie Friday morning.

Sjolie — playing lead on Shannon Kleibrink’s squad with second Glenna Rubin and third Allison Earl — entered the eight end trailing 4-2 but managed to squeeze out a victory from Bell.

Bell — skipping a squad with second Cheryl Hall, third, Judy Pendergast and lead Valarie Hellwig —took a point in the first end, two in the fourth and one in the seventh. Kleibrink grabbed points in the second and third ends before pulling away with the victory in the eighth.

The triple knockout event continues through the weekend at Airdrie Curling Club.
