Police arrest man after he evaded traffic stop

The Medicine Hat Police Service has one man in custody after he evaded a traffic stop Saturday afternoon.

The man was known to police to be on two driving bans through a Conditional Sentence Order from a conviction for flight/evade police and a second pre-trial order prohibiting driving.

According to a MHPS press release the man drove in a dangerous manner to avoid the traffic stop. Police disengaged with the vehicle to lower risk to community members.

Police later attended to the suspect’s home and located the male within who refused to exit and threatened self-harm.

Police conducted a manual breach of the door to prevent any self-harm and took him into custody without further issues.

The suspect will not be named until his charges are sworn into court.

The man is facing numerous charges including, dangerous driving, flight from police, breach of recognizance. breach of conditional sentence order and taking motor vehicle without consent.
