Medicine Hat News The Medicine Hat Waves swim club finished 2018 with a massive meet in Calgary. At Repsol Centre, the Cascades’ Age Group Challenge saw 600 athletes in the water including 10 Waves members. Karsten Senft spent his team’s most time on a podium, winning the 50 metre backstroke for 12- and 13-year-old boys. He also took second in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 metre backstroke. Jaivyn Barabe was the Waves’ other medalist, third in the girls’ 13-and-over 50 metre breaststroke. She was a narrow fourth in the 100. Taigan Walker also had a fourth-place finish, hers in the 50 breast for 11- and 12-year-old girls. Walker was seventh in the 100 breaststroke as well. The Hat club has a few more practices left this calendar year but no more meets until January. Medicine Hat Waves results from the Cascades Age Group Challenge this past weekend in Calgary: Girls 10-under Keira Leclair (10) – 50 breast, 14th; 200 IM, 22nd; 100 back, 29th; 100 free, 33rd; 50 back, 34th; 50 free, 38th. Boys 11-under William Smith (11) – 50 breast, 56th; 100 back, 57th; 50 back, 62nd; 100 free, 74th; 50 free, 80th.
