Medicine Hat News

December keeps getting better for Medicine Hat Tigers goalie Mads Søgaard.

The Danish netminder turned 18, was added to his national team’s world junior camp roster, named a player to watch by none other than NHL Central Scouting, then put up a pair of tremendous performances to lead the Tigers into the holiday break.

On Monday, he was rewarded by the WHL as its goalie of the week. He could be named the CHL goalie of the week as well.

Søgaard made 49 saves Friday against Red Deer in a 4-1 win, following a 36-save showing in Wednesday’s 4-2 victory against Kamloops.

Now 10-4-1-2 with a 2.39 goals against average, Søgaard might not be back until January depending on his status with Denmark’s team.

Victoria Royals forward Dante Hannoun was named WHL player of the week after putting up nine points in four games, three of them wins.

The Tigers return to action Dec. 28 at home to Kootenay, then Dec. 29 at home to Victoria.
