Court Briefs: Six months in jail for fraud, mischief, false alarm

A man guilty of fraud, mischief and pulling a fire alarm was sentenced at Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Wednesday to six months in jail.
Jasen Palmer pled guilty on Sept. 20 to three counts of fraud under $5,000, one count of a false alarm and eight breaches.
Due to his plea, the Crown had dropped an additional mischief charge and breach.
With time served, Palmer will be in jail an additional 16 days.
Bail terms amended for holidays
Jonathan Paul, who faces one count of child luring, had his bail conditions amended to allow him to spend Christmas with his family.
He wanted to go to his mother’s house for the holidays, where his sister, who has a young child, would be in attendance.
Paul’s conditions had prevented him from being in the presence of anyone under 16 years old.
An exemption was granted from Christmas eve to New Year’s to permit him to be in the presence of children under 16 as long as other adults are present.
His brother-in-law is an RCMP officer, while his sister works for child services, duty counsel said.
Paul’s next court appearance is slated for Jan. 21.
