Selah Singers invite you to celebrate 15 years

The Selah Singers community choir is celebrating its 15th year of performing in the city and has shows this weekend to celebrate the Holiday season.

“The choir is full of people from all walks of life,” said conductor Ralph Browne. “This year we’re celebrating 15 years as a group and we have people as young as 13 in the choir and people in their 20s, 30s and a couple people well into their 80s.

“It’s really a multi-generational choir and there’s over 100 singers this year.”

The theme for this year’s shows is Christmas Mission Impossible, and the choir is performing at the Medicine Hat College’s Eresman Theatre. Browne says it is going to be a fun show.

“We deal with some of the comical challenges of Christmas in our society,” he said. “We also look at the history of Christmas — it’s going to be a really fun show to see.”

The first show of the year is tonight at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening 30 minutes before the show. There are shows Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. and a Saturday afternoon show at 2 p.m. Browne says the performances are free to attend and work on a first-come, first-served basis.

“One of the key things about these shows is that they are free for the community,” he said. “We don’t even have tickets, we just open the doors and people can pick their seats.

“We do accept money if people would like to give anything, but it is not required at all.”

The show will feature a children’s choir of around 30 kids and a 17-piece orchestra. It will run for roughly 90 minutes with no breaks.
