Medicine Hat College is seeking nominations for the Business Person of the Year, an honour celebrated annually at the Building Future Leaders networking event.

The selection committee, which consists of students, staff, faculty and community representatives, is looking for individuals with leadership qualities, entrepreneurial drive and community involvement, while making measurable contributions to their industry, including growth through new and innovative solutions.

“Each year we get nominations from all facets of our business community and subsequently hear stories about all the wonderful things happening in and around Medicine Hat,” said Karl Schwonik, associate dean of business at MHC. “In 2019, we look forward to adding a new name to our already exceptional group of past recipients. There are plenty of exciting things happening in our business community and many terrific business people working to make this happen.”

Schwonik encourages the community to take the time to fill in the nomination form.

“Nominating someone is a great service to the community,” he said. “We want to recognize the considerable successes out there and help connect our students to inspiring leaders. This award plays a big part in how we do that.”

Deadline for nominations is Jan. 31.

This year’s Building Future Leaders event will be held March 21. The event will have a slightly different format than in previous years — a larger focus on networking and building relationships between students and the business community.

“If you are a business professional, we encourage year to attend this event for a chance to meet the leader of the future, find a new employee or to just stay connected to the work happening at the college,” said Schwonik. “It is the highlight of the year for us, and really gives MHC the opportunity to reconnect, meet new faces and showcase our outstanding students.”

Nomination forms can be downloaded at mhc.ab.ca/buildingfutureleaders.
