Medicine Hat News

Once again, a pair of ex-Medicine Hat Tigers helped hand their old team a loss.

Max Gerlach scored, Gary Haden assisted on the game-winner and the Saskatoon Blades earned a 4-2 home win Tuesday night.

Saskatoon had beat the Tigers in Medicine Hat Friday and greeted the Tabbies, who began a four-game road trip through the East Division.

Ryan Chyzowski scored both goals for the visitors, his first on the power play and his second in the final minute with goalie Jordan Hollett pulled for the extra attacker.

Hollett made 33 saves but took the loss, giving up goals to Gerlach and rookie Kyle Crnkovic in the second period. Chase Wouters netted the eventual game-winner in the third, while Kirby Dach got an empty-netter just before the clock ran out.

Nolan Maier made 37 stops to earn first star honours at SaskTel Centre, which saw 2,866 fans in attendance.

Medicine Hat has now lost five of its last six games, and heads to Prince Albert tonight to face a Raiders team that’s 16-1 and ranked atop the CHL.

From there they head to Brandon Friday and Swift Current Saturday before returning home for a week.

The Tigers had nine power-play chances and only made good on one, while the Blades were 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Now 9-9-1-2, Medicine Hat is seven points back of first-place Edmonton in the Central Division. Meanwhile, Saskatoon has won three straight and is 13-7-2, six points back of Prince Albert in the East.
