Strathcona Centre renovations to be shown off at open house

gslade@medicinehatnews.com @MHNGillianSlade Renovations at Strathcona Centre are almost complete, and the public is invited to see the results at an open house on Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. In July, when the refurbished Veiner Centre opened, the Strathcona Centre, which had been the seniors’ centre since the 2013 flood, was closed to undergo renovations. The work included electrical upgrades for fitness equipment, the renovation of washrooms to make them barrier free, and building a storage room to accommodate ping pong tables. With the Strathcona Centre open once again, the seniors’ fitness equipment will be there plus activities such as table tennis, line dancing, Qi gong, floor curling, bocce ball and pickle ball. The annual membership for seniors to belong to the Veiner Centre is $100, which gives the member access to the Veiner Centre and the Strathcona Centre, with the exception of the fitness centre. Those who would like to use the fitness centre need to pay a $300 annual fee. This includes the basic membership of $100 plus another $200 for the fitness membership. A one-time fitness Centre access card of $10 (refundable upon return of the card) will also apply to those buying the $300 membership. Other activities in the Strathcona Centre, such as ping pong, fall within the basic membership of $100. 8
