By Chris Brown on November 1, 2018.
Calgary’s Lindsay Ell has been making a name for herself in country music on both side of the border. She’s performing at the Esplanade on Nov. 2. We have a full feature on Lindsay in Thursday’s issue, but Chris Brown had so much fun talking to her he asked five more questions for an online exclusive. 1 – If you could record with one person in the world, who would it be? Oh my goodness, that’s quite the question. Ed Sheeran. He’s just a great musician, a great songwriter. He’s into the looping world like I am and I think it would be really cool to collaborate with him. And Shawn Mendes, fellow Canuck; watching him grow his career as he has in the past few months and everything he’s built it into is so inspiring. I think it would be really cool to collaborate with either one of those. 2- What’s your pre-show routine? Normally with the band we’ll all be in the green room doing warm-ups, you know, warm-ups with guitar, warm-ups with vocals. Me and my guitar player do a round of pushups so we’ll hop on the floor right before we go on stage. If you can see the wings of the stage in an arena you’ll sometimes see us doing pushups together. We like to get the blood flowing. As well as we also prayer and we sometimes choose a word of the day. We’re super nerdy. We’re pretty much the nerdiest band ever. 3 – What’s your favourite vacation spot? I just finished doing a couple of shows in London and had a couple of random festival dates cancelled on me in Florida because of the hurricanes down there. so we decided, me and my manager to go Italy for a day. It was the first time I’d ever been and now it is my favourite vacation spot. It is amazing. 4 – What’s your biggest fear? My biggest fear would be going through life feeling unfulfilled. Not doing what makes me happy. 5 – If you were not a musician what do you think your career would be? I feel like I still need to answer if I wasn’t in music I would be in music. I would find another way around it. When I was little I wanted to be a doctor but ever since I turned 10 and I started playing on stage I fell in love with music. If I couldn’t do music, if it was absolutely a rule, I’d probably be a director. 5.5 – Film or music video or TV/any thing and everything? Probably all of the above. There’s something about movies that really intrigue me. The way they’re captured and the way you can get so creative and bring a whole other world to life is really intriguing to me. 14
