If you are willing to quit smoking cold turkey and do not even take one puff in a 30-day period, the Lung Association of Alberta is offering an incentive.

The organization’s goal is to find 100 Albertans to sign up for its 30-day Quit Cold Turkey Challenge. The 100 registrants will be offered strong support in the challenge that will commence at noon on Nov. 1 and end Dec. 1.

The Lung Association says studies show if someone is able to quit for 30 days there is a strong likelihood they will remain smoke free.

“When the challenge period ends at noon on Dec. 1, 2018 and you have remained completely smoke-free (not even a puff) for 30 days, we will celebrate your achievement with a gift from our family to yours. We will be giving out a turkey/gift card for those who are successful in becoming smoke-free,” says a press release.

Alberta has a higher than average smoking rate compared to other Canadian provinces, and this challenge will reduce smoking rates and help prevent lung cancer.

The organization has a Facebook group for participants to support each other.

Successful participants who complete the challenge and then remain smoke-free will be asked to share their story to celebrate their success and inspire others.
