Medicine Hat News The Rattlers women’s basketball team made up for another slow start in a big way Friday. At Lethbridge to face the Kodiaks, Medicine Hat College’s ladies trailed through the first quarter but you’d never know it by the final score, 76-45. A 12-0 run late in the first half was capped by forward Jordyn Kearley’s third of four three-pointers, and the Rattlers didn’t look back in improving to 4-0 on the season. Kearley finished with 18 points, second only to fifth-year guard Kendell Kuntz’s 21. Fellow guard Morgan Muir added five assists and four steals. Jocelyn Neilson and Courtney Peterson each had 10 points in a losing cause for the Kodiaks, who fell to 2-1. Medicine Hat — now the only undefeated team in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference — doesn’t play again until Nov. 9 in Olds and Nov. 10 in Red Deer. Men’s basketball The men’s Rattlers were upset 103-82 for their first loss of the season, and Lethbridge’s first. The Kodiaks got huge nights from Orin Porter Jr. (28 points), Lincoln Anderson (25 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists) and Michael Clemons (17 points, 17 assists). Medicine Hat was led by rookie guard Jusci Thompson, who had 20 points in just 11 minutes of floor time according to the online game summary. Veteran Jon Sappleton also had 20 points, adding 14 rebounds and five assists to lead the team in all three categories. A 15-0 run in the second quarter swung the momentum in the home team’s side, but the key for the Kodiaks was fourth-quarter defence, as they expanded a four-point lead to 15 with three minutes left. Medicine Hat fell to 3-1 while Lethbridge is now 1-2. 15
