Ag producers will be able to dispose of leftover pesticide and outdated livestock medication at no charge next week during a round-up held throughout southern Alberta.
Every three years, non-profit group CleanFarms, accepts particular types of waste to keep them out of the environment or going into a landfill.
The 2016 round-up brought in nearly 80 tonnes of pesticide and 5,300 kilograms of medicine, which was either recycled or safely disposed.
Collection takes place in Medicine Hat on Oct. 25, at the UFA location on 30th Street, SW. That same day, the UFA in Taber will be receiving chemicals.
The event will only collect pesticides marked with pest control product numbers and livestock medication with a DIN, serial or pest control number.
The program won’t accept fertilizer, diluted solution, treated seed, household hazardous waste, medicated feed or veterinary waste or ear tags.
A schedule of collection points details locations across the southeast and southwest of the province.
Collection begins Oct. 22 in Vauxhall at South Country Co-op, among three other locations in southern Alberta, including Hanna.
Collection points will be staged in Brooks and Iron Springs, at respective Nutrien Ag Solutions locations, on Oct. 26.
Bow Island’s event is set for Oct. 24, at Parrish and Heimbecker west of the town.
Collection Oct. 23 will be held in Foremost, at W. Buis Holdings at First Avenue, and Oyen, at the Richardson Pioneer outlet.
