Less than a week after one player left asking for a trade, the Medicine Hat Tigers have decided to reduce their roster even further.

The Tigers announced Tuesday that 16-year-old defenceman Ryan Watson has been reassigned, presumably back to the Delta Hockey Academy in his hometown in B.C.

Watson had 19 points in 32 games with Delta last season, after being picked in the third round of the 2017 bantam draft.

In four games this season he didn’t record a point, had two penalty minutes and was credited with two shots on goal. The team still has seven defencemen on the roster, plus 13 forwards after 19-year-old Gary Haden asked to be traded last week.

“We will monitor Ryan’s progress and look forward to him rejoining our team in the future,” said Tigers general manager and head coach Shaun Clouston in a press release.

The team also remains at two goaltenders. Garin Bjorklund, who was the odd man out after training camp, got some good news Tuesday as he was included in the 66-man Hockey Canada roster for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge next month in New Brunswick.

Bjorklund, from Grande Prairie, will play with one of three Canadian teams at the event which starts Nov. 3.
