Medicine Hat News

Both Southeast Athletic Club Tigers teams have started their respective seasons with positive results.

The midget 15-year-old SEAC team is now 3-1-1 after recording a tie and a win. They drew the Calgary Stampeders 2-2 Saturday night at Hockey Hounds, then went on the road Sunday and beat Calgary’s Rangers 5-3.

Jarred Schrock and Tanner Gold scored third-period goals to erase a 2-0 deficit Saturday, their team peppering goalie Zoltan Bencsik with 48 shots. Hat goalie Aidan Low surrendured two goals in the first period but made 13 saves in the final 40 minutes to help earn the single point.

On Sunday, Evan Gebhart scored twice, Ethan Machan got the eventual game-winner in the third and both Carsyn Good and Braden Houle scored on the Rangers. Brendan Olson made 39 saves in a game where both sides’ offences were clicking. Shots were 46-42 for the Tigers.

Best of all, they play their next four games on home ice.

Bantam AAA

A pair of home wins has pushed the bantam AAA Tigers’ record to 4-2-1.

On Saturday they beat the Calgary Royals 5-1, breaking a 1-1 tie with four unanswered goals in the third period.

Matthew MacPherson had a goal and two assists. Kieran Christianson, Vann Yuhas, Roman Cherniak and Josh Drefs also scored. Shots were 54-19 in SEAC’s favour, making for an easier night for winning goalie Bodee Weiss.

It was another third-period rally Sunday, as Tyler Broesky scored his second with 14:29 to go, then assisted on MacPherson’s insurance marker with 4:52 left. MacPherson also set up Dawson Seitz as both teams scored twice in the opening frame. Shots were 35-33 for the Tigers, with Kaiden Morin taking the win in net.

Midget AA

Medicine Hat’s midget AA Hounds split their weekend, losing 3-1 to the Okotoks Oilers Friday at the Kinplex before shutting out the Wheatland Chiefs 4-0 Saturday.

In both games the goalies were a big part of the story. Okotoks’ Mitch Dudar made 54 saves as his team was outshot 55-19 Friday. Only Brandon Hauck, on the power play in the third period, was able to beat Dudar.

Nate Hoffman made all 16 saves he faced in Medicine Hat’s win Saturday. The Hounds only had 20 shots themselves, but Ryley Manz scored on two of them and Levi Schlosser and Cam Hall had singles.

Bantam AA

In bantam AA action, Medicine Hat lost 8-4 to Wheatland at the Moose Recreation Centre Saturday in their only game of the weekend.

Peewee AA

As for the Hounds peewee AA’s, they improved to 5-1 with a 5-2 win over Central Alberta’s Selects Saturday.

Peewee girls

The peewee Wildcats girls team beat Olds 9-2 Saturday at the Kinplex, getting three goals from Keira Grant, two from Katie Kuipers and Brianna Finke as nine different players found the score sheet.

In Okotoks Sunday, they won 5-0 with Keyana Bert scoring twice and shots 62-16 in the visitors’ favour.
