Medicine Hat News Every point gets the Medicine Hat Cubs closer to where they want to be, so Saturday night’s last-minute goal in Coaldale was a big one. Although the junior B hockey team lost 4-3 in overtime to the Copperheads, Noah Irvine’s marker with 54 seconds left in the third period salvaged something from a game they led at one point. Levi Anderson won it with the only shot of the extra frame, beating Cubs goalie Brett Vanderveer who made 36 saves. Anderson finished with two goals and an assist as Coaldale improved to 4-1-1. Cooper Hilworth and Tristan Stensrud scored for Medicine Hat, now 1-3-1. Stensrud’s goal 6:29 into the third made it 2-1 for the visitors, but Anderson and Jayden Smith responded before Irvine’s late game-tying goal. The Cubs host 6-0 Airdrie and 0-2-1 Ponoka next weekend. 8
