The Medicine Hat Travelodge Cubs will look back into the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s win column this weekend, but they’ll be in tough against the Coaldale Copperheads.

After opening the season with a 1-1 road trip, the Cubs dropped a pair of shutout losses last weekend — a 4-0 loss to the Copperheads in Saturday’s home opener and an 8-0 setback to the Okotoks Bisons the next day.

Now they’ll be out for redemption in enemy territory.

The reigning South champion Copperheads opened their season with 3-1-0, led by four goals from Jayden Smith, while Christian Dees boasts six assists and nine points over his four games played.

While the Cubs have been held off the scoresheet over their past two contests, Chandler Aleman enters this weekend holding the team lead in goals with three —plus two assists for five points in four games — while Noah Irvine leads the set-up game with four helpers and a goal.

Cubs goalie Brett Vanderveer boasts an .857 save percentage despite a 5.02 goals against average through four games played.

The Cubs will be back at the Kinplex next weekend to host the Airdrie Thunder Saturday at 7:45 p.m.and the Ponoka Stampeders Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
