Olive Leona Myrthen nee Trapp was born on May 22nd, 1923 in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, and passed away on Saturday, September 29th, 2018 in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Olive was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a special friend to all. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Louise (Robert) Wilson and Joan Myrthen (Bill Anderson); grandchildren, Susan (Tom) Howard, Darryl (Rachel) Binnion, Janet (Bruce) Jones and Sean (Krista) Wilson; nine great-grandchildren, Thomas, Corwin, Dylan, William, Braden, Devon, Gavin, Tyson and Keira. Olive was predeceased by her parents, Ernest George Trapp (July 1963) and Olga Amelia Trapp (May 1991); her beloved husband, William Alexander Frank Myrthen (February 2003); her grandsons, Scott Wilson (October 2003) and Sean Anderson (November 2015); and one brother, Orin Ernest Trapp (December 2015). Mom was always saying “one day at a time” and she was very uplifting and always had a kind word for everyone. Mom laughed that she could share her birthday with Bob on May 22 but of course different year. Mom was thrifty, so we only needed 1 birthday cake. In her younger years she was very athletic; she speed-skated, played soft ball, played volleyball, and even went swimming when it was cold. Every summer she loved going to the farm with her mother and brother to make ice cream. She was very active in her church over the years singing in the choir, singing on the radio, treasurer for the church and President for the Ladies Group. She enjoyed doing accounting and was also financial treasurer for their condo in Medicine Hat. She also found time to go bowling once a week and won many trophies and was President of the League. She enjoyed watching sports on TV such as curling and golfing. Mom enjoyed playing board games, card games and enjoyed having the grandkids over on Sundays to play games. She loved camping with her husband and the grandkids; always had crafts ready for them to do. Mom enjoyed babysitting the grandkids anytime. Mom and Dad loved to travel and had been across Canada a few times; Hawaii, and spending their winters in Death Valley, California with friends. Throughout the years Mom kept in touch with her school friends. Olive lived in South Country Village for 15 years and made many friends and she loved and appreciated the care she received from the staff. We would also like to thank Dr. W.A. Ruzycki for his care and attention over the years. The Celebration of Life will be held at the WUERFEL AUDITORIUM, 1720 Bell Street SW, on Friday, October 5th, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Bob Church and Pastor Bob Findley co-officiating.
