The Medicine Hat Hawks bantam football team got a great test Monday night from the Parkside Pythons, but managed a third straight win in league play.

At the Methanex Bowl, the Hawks earned a 27-18 victory, following up Friday’s 38-6 win over Brooks.

First-half touchdown runs from Tessema Veurink (48 yards) and Brody Fink (two yards) paced the Hawks to a 14-0 lead Monday. A stellar running game from Parkside produced a third quarter touchdown, but Medicine Hat responded with a four-yard run from Aayden Callan.

A second Pythons touchdown was again answered, this time with a 30-yard major from Devon Marshall. Again the Pythons made it a two-possession game, but it was too little, too late.

Dylan Callan had 11 tackles for the Hawks. The Pythons didn’t report any information to the News.

From Friday’s game at Brooks, defence was the story. Kai Noon had three interceptions and Aaron Kruger a pick-six in the 38-6 rout. Aayden Callan had two touchdowns, kicked five converts and a field goal plus ran for more than 200 yards. Veurink and Fink had majors too.

The Hawks and Colts square off Friday at 5 p.m. with the News Cup on the line.
