It was a monumental day for the Medicine Hat Hawks bantam football team Saturday.

Head coach Scott Howes reported that his team beat the Raymond Comets for the first time in 22 years.

At the Methanex Bowl, the Hawks started slow but wound up 58-14 victors. They fumbled the opening kickoff to the Comets, but had a pair of special teams touchdowns and a few other huge plays that turned the tide.

Aaron Kruger ran back a punt 82 yards to paydirt, while Tessema Veurink had a 74-yard kickoff return. Both players added long touchdown runs and an interception each.

Aayden Callan ran in two TD’s, caught a pass from Brody Fink for another and made seven of his eight kicks on the day, seven converts and a 22-yard field goal. Defensively he also had an interception. His brother Dylan Callan had more than 20 tackles.

Kaeden Buckler added a one-yard sneak for another major

Medicine Hat heads to Brooks for a game this week and plays Parkside Monday at the Methanex Bowl.
