Court Briefs: Smaller conviction for man already in prison for trafficking

A man imprisoned in Drumheller for two years on drug trafficking charges pled guilty Tuesday at Medicine Hat Provincial Court to unauthorized use of credit card data.

Morgan Williams appeared in court via closed-circuit TV from the medium-security Drumheller Institution, where he pled guilty to using a credit card in May that belonged to CP Railway Police.

According to the statement of facts from the Crown, Williams spent $1,306 at a 7-Eleven with the card.

Williams was sentenced to two years imprisonment in June for drug trafficking.

He was sentenced Tuesday to 30 days concurrent, meaning he won’t serve any additional time.

Williams faced two counts of use and possession of a stolen credit card, as well as five counts of unauthorized use of credit card data, which were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea to a single count.

Woman accused of robbery with son needs lawyer for other matters

A woman co-accused of robbery with her son had her matters adjourned Tuesday to allow her to apply to Legal Aid to get a lawyer for other, more serious charges faced.

Claudine Odele Gray appeared in court in person, alongside defence counsel Robert Robbenhaar, who said he’s only representing Gray on the robbery charge.

The matter was adjourned to Oct. 2.

In addition to robbery, Gray faces a charge each of assault, unlawful confinement, possession of stolen property and theft under $5,000, as well as two charges each of failure to appear in court and breaching bail conditions.
