Construction projects nearing completion

Paving and trail upgrades near River Road and Maple Avenue are nearing completion and will re-open for public use, the city’s parks department reported Friday.

The Devonian Trail, which runs past the Downtown YMCA location, had been the site of work this summer to shore up the pathway with a retaining wall and install a guardrail on the narrow strip between the road and South Saskatchewan River shoreline. That also resulted in a halt to traffic between First Street S.E. and the Ash Ave. parking lots for the YMCA, Athletic Park and police station.

With the paving work completed, the trail will re-open for about one week, at which point the guardrail should be delivered and installed following another brief closure.

The public is advised to obey all signs in the area and to remain a safe distance from construction activities.

Crack repair

A round of autumn road repairs will begin on Wed., Sept. 19 on various roads throughout the city, the municipal works department announced Friday.

Crack maintenance is considered preventative maintenance that will extend the service life of a road.

Motorists and pedestrians are asked to be aware of crews.
