The Terry Fox Run has been a staple in Canadian communities since the 1980s.
The event takes place Sunday at Kin Coulee Park and is a three-kilometre course around the park. Registration is at 10 a.m. with the walk starting 30 minutes later.
“Things will be starting at the bandshell,” said event co-chair Raquel Hepworth. “People are welcome to come out and take part no matter what.
“You’re welcome to walk, run, rollerblade, wheel — it’s not a competitive event and everyone is welcome.”
All money raised locally will go to the Terry Fox Foundation, which has raised more than $750 million nationwide since its inception.
“We usually raise between $5-10,000 every year,” said Hepworth. “The Kinette Club has been running it since its inception — the Terry Fox Walk is important to us.”
The walk is in its 38th year locally and pets are welcome at the event if they are on a leash.
“We expect between 50 and 100 people every year,” said co-chair Jill Hofer. “It’s a really fun event that anyone can take part in.”
The Terry Fox Foundation uses 82 cents from every dollar donated to put toward cancer research, and Hepworth says it’s a very important cause.
“Everyone knows someone who has been impacted by cancer,” she said. “The Terry Fox Foundation is a great organization that helps a lot of people.”
