With a provincial election looming in the spring, preparations are underway to have Albertans register to vote.
For another two weeks you can register yourself to vote, and starting Sept. 8 Elections Alberta enumerators will be making door-to-door visits.
For the 2019 provincial election information is being collected on all electors who are residents of Alberta, at least 18 years of age, and Canadian citizens, to ensure they are on the list of electors.
When the election is called, those on the list of electors will be mailed personalized information about when and where to vote, and will receive faster service at the polls.
For the first time, information on those that are currently 16 and 17 years old will also be collected. This will simplify the process for elections in the future when they are old enough to vote, said Chief Electoral Officer Glen Resler.
Before Sept. 8 you can register yourself to vote online. Have your Alberta driver’s licence or identification card handy.
If you prefer you can call Elections Alberta call centre at 1-877-422-8683, which is open Monday to Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
From Sept. 8 to Sept. 30 more than 7,000 Elections Alberta enumerators will be going to the homes of those not registered.
“Even if you have voted previously, we need to verify that the information that we have is still current,” said Resler.
Elections Alberta is an independent non-partisan office of the Legislative Assembly responsible for administering provincial enumerations, elections, by-elections and referenda.
