Room to Dance will get you on your feet

For fans of classic rock and classic country hits, the Stay in Medicine Hat Free Stage is the place to be during this year’s Stampede.

At 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., Room to Dance will be playing a number of classic country and rock hits for Hatters to come out and enjoy.

“We’ve been playing together for 21 years now,” said JC Plett of her and husband Andy’s two-person band. “We started in 1997 and then made a CD the year after, ever since then we’ve been more of a cover band.”

JC says the band plays a selection of songs everyone will recognize.

“We learned pretty quick that the best way to clear out the dance floor was to play songs people had never heard of,” said JC. “We do everything from Johnny Cash to AC/DC and everything in between.

“Some of the most popular covers we do are ‘Comfortably Numb’ by Pink Floyd, some Guns N’ Roses and a lot of AC/DC.”

The band does not play any original music, but focuses on music that will get people on their feet.

“The songs we play are the ones that will get people to grab a friend and dance,” said JC. “Music is fun for us, and has been for so long. We want people to come out to the show and have a fun time.”

The duo has been touring Canada and the U.S., and say they love doing Stampede events.

“The audience is always a great range in age,” said JC. “It’s always great to play shows for a group of kids and their grandparents and everyone in between.”
