Medicine Hat’s major AAA All-Stars had their hopes of a national berth dashed in a narrow 3-2 provincial semifinal loss to CalWest on Wednesday in Lethbridge.

Carson Christianson did all he could to keep the season alive when he blasted a home run to left field in the sixth — cutting CalWest’s lead down to 3-2 with three outs remaining — but Medicine Hat was unable to cash the tying run and were forced to settle for a top-four finish.

Christianson’s solo shot was the lone RBI for Medicine Hat in the loss, while Jory Graves and Parker Krauss added the team’s other two hits.

Gavin Smith settled for the loss despite a gem outing. The Hat starter held CalWest to three runs on two hits and two walks through 3 2/3 innings while fanning two batters.
