Medicine Hat’s UPS Store was recently given a piece of history by a customer, and now the owners are trying to do some good with it.

The store got its hands on a photo of downtown Medicine Hat from 1913 and will be selling prints of the photo to raise money for a few local charities.

“Because this is such an amazing historical piece, we wanted to create a fundraiser and give back to the community a bit,” said store co-owner Dominique Hirsch. “On top of giving back to a few charities, we’ll also be giving people a chance to own a really nice piece of history.

“The picture will look great in a living room as a conversation piece or in an office.”

The store was given the photo by long-time customer Fred Hauck, and three of the store’s workers have picked charities that mean something to them to send donations to.

“All of the charities are local to Medicine Hat,” she said. “The way we did this was that, we picked charities that had either impacted our lives or somebody that we know.

“It’s the Medicine Hat Health Foundation, the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank and the Canadian Mental Health Association.”

The store will be selling prints in three sizes, 28-by-18-inches for $139, 32-by-20-inches for $199 and 50-by-31-inches for $389. The prints will raise $30, $50 and $100 for charity depending on the size, with the buyer picking which charity gets the money.

Hirsch says the store wants to have orders in for the end of the month, so it can start getting the prints made and sold to people.

She says the store has a goal of $5,000 total to be distributed to all of the charities.

Anyone wanting more information can go to the store on Dunmore Road or by calling in at 403-528-4669.
