Fire ban for Forty Mile

Medicine Hat News The County of Forty Mile has imposed a fire ban, cancelling burning permits and restricting all fires outside of campfire rings and approved barrels with spark arrestors. The measure was imposed on July 9 after scorching temperatures and dry winds increase risks. No new permits will be issued until the order is rescinded. Cypress County has had a similar ban in effect since mid-June. There are no firebans in place in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, or any other provincial park in Alberta. Also this week, Special Areas 2, 3, and 4 issued a fire advisory stating that while campfires are allowed in campgrounds and random camping areas, they could be restricted if conditions do not improve. The Municipal District of Taber has had a fire advisory in effect since June 1. There is no current fire warning in the County of Newell, though measures are in place in Vulcan County. A province-wide fire ban in Saskatchewan was lifted on June 15, and there are no restrictions in place as of Friday. The Wildfire Service in that province reports the fire risk in the entire southwest region is at high or extreme risk. 9-8
