Medicine Hat News How far can this streak go? The Medicine Hat Mavericks will try to win their 13th game in a row tonight against the Edmonton Prospects. The Mavs have had blowouts, close games and come-from-behind stunners in their last 12, somehow always winding up ahead. They’ll face an Edmonton team that is still below the .500 mark but also very much in the Western Major Baseball League playoff hunt thanks to a surprisingly weak Western Division thus far. After Medicine Hat’s stellar 22-3 record, Okotoks is 15-10, then Edmonton at 12-15 and Lethbridge at 10-16 (prior to Thursday’s games) round out the top four. But Fort McMurray (9-17) and Brooks (7-17) are right there since the top four make playoffs. The 47-game season’s mid-way point has now passed, but the Mavericks could clinch a playoff spot as soon as soon as next week. Their magic number (Mavs wins plus targetted team’s losses) is seven for finishing ahead of either Fort McMurray and Brooks, nine for Lethbridge and 10 for Edmonton. They only need to clinch spots ahead of two teams to book their spot in the playoffs in August. 6
