For a first shot at provincials, the Medicine Hat Thunder didn’t seem overwhelmed.

The under-10 girls softball team was in Calgary this past weekend, playing hard but ultimately not going home with any hardware. But they did win a couple games, signalling the trip wasn’t just for show.

On Saturday the Thunder opened with a 16-10 loss to the Nose Creek Norwhals out of Calgary. Offence certainly wasn’t a problem for the Thunder, who then got their first win later in the day, a 19-3 decision over the Red Deer Rage.

A 17-11 loss to the St. Albert Angels Sunday morning kept them from the medal round, but they finished strong with a 20-17 win over Edmonton’s High Park Panthers.

Players of the game for Medicine Hat’s four games were Kennedy Sissons, Jayden Dennison, Ryleigh Jackiw and Molleigh Coombs. Already players are looking forward to next year, with about half the group eligible to stay at the under-10 age group and others graduating to under-12.
