Voting to determine which of the United Conservative Party contestants in the Brooks-Medicine Hat riding will be the candidate in the next provincial election is just a couple weeks away.

There are three contestants according to Elections Alberta website: Todd Beasley, Michaela Glasgo and Dinah Hiebert.

The deadline for submitting applications for the nomination contest was June 20.

Voting will take place July 16 and 17 with the results communicated to UCP membership by email and on the party’s website, said Janice Harrington, UCP executive director.

“We are still working with the local organizing committee on the logistics of times and locations. Only members of the Brooks-Medicine Hat UCP constituency association can vote and only if they have purchased a membership 21 days prior to the first voting day (that would be June 24),” said Harrington.

Todd Beasley is the technical director for an agriculture processing company and has a career in leading developments of patented environmental technologies used internationally.

After graduating with a political science degree, Michaela Glasgo has worked in the Cypress-Medicine Hat constituency office for three years hearing directly from constituents.

Dinah Hiebert has lived in the riding for 40 years and believes a change is needed. She says she is tired of governments that don’t listen and politicians that do not seem to care.

Voting for a UCP candidate in the Cardston-Siksika riding took place earlier this week with 3,426 ballots cast. Contestant Joseph Schow received 1,955 votes and Marc Slingerland 1,468.

In the Cypress-Medicine Hat riding MLA Drew Barnes was endorsed as the candidate with no other nominations.

Grant Hunter is the UCP candidate in the Taber-Warner riding.
