Medicine Hat News Jesse Florkowski’s run as the best one-armed golfer in North America is, shall we say, on pause. The 28-year-old Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club assistant pro was beat in the North American One-Armed Golfer Association final by American Vince Biser in Thursday’s match play final at Odessa Country Club in Texas. It took a 19th hole for Biser to get the win, sinking a 10-foot birdie putt at the par 4 18th while Florkowski could only manage par. “It was really good,” Florkowski wrote in a text message to the News regarding the final. In a public Facebook post, he congratulated Biser, who’s now won the event six times and stopped Florkowski’s streak at four in a row. “There’s more to life than winning championships,” he wrote. “If I’m able to be a walking role model with an upbeat attitude then that’s what I’m here for.” Florkowski and Biser ran a clinic for fellow one-handed players Monday prior to the start of the championships. Florkowski then shot qualifying rounds of 74 and 68 on the par 72 layout to earn the top seed for the match play portion of the event. 9
