There were more than medals handed out to members of the Medicine Hat track and field community this past weekend in Calgary.

Bulldogs club coach Sean Freeman said in an email late Tuesday that his club won the Athletics Alberta Division 2 club of the year award at a banquet Saturday night. The award goes to the team with fewer than 30 members whose athletes combined for the best aggregate results in 2017.

Bulldogs member Sarah Mickey earned the female para-athlete of the year award while Jayel Dovichak was honoured for being in the top 10 of her bantam girls division.

Freeman will help coach Alberta’s team at the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Brandon, Aug. 10-12. Dovichak and Elic Ayomanor will be on the team.
