Scores tightened up at the Alberta Open near Calgary Wednesday, but Ryan Werre remains in a great spot entering today’s final round.

The Redcliff golfer put up a 1-over par 73 at River Spirit Golf Club, following up his impressive 6-under first round Tuesday.

Airdrie’s Riley Fleming shot a 2-under 70 to sit 7-under and take the overall lead from Werre with 18 holes to go. Calgary’s Wes Heffernan and Evan Holmes are a shot back of Fleming, while Werre is two back at 5-under along with Calgary’s Kent Fukushima and Tyler Saunders of Sturgeon County.

Werre was 2-under for the round until he bogeyed the eighth and 10th holes Wednesday.

Two other Medicine Hat players made the cut, including Dillon Batsel who fired a 1-over 73 to sit at even par for the tournament and tied for 12th spot overall. Michael Valk had a wild day on the links, his 4-over 76 including just five pars but also six birdies. He’s 7-over and tied for 37th place.

Lanny Seefried’s 14-over opening round didn’t survive the cut line.
