A cyclist is dead after being struck by a vehicle Sunday afternoon in Cypress County.

Redcliff RCMP report they were called to Township Road 120 and Range Road 62 shortly before 2:30 p.m., after a Buick SUV was travelling westbound behind a cyclist who was also westbound when the collision occurred.

The cyclist, a 64-year-old man from Medicine Hat, succumbed to his injuries on scene. The driver, a 74-year-old woman from Medicine Hat, was not injured.

Police say neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be a factor in this collision, and the investigation is continuing.

No charges have been laid as of yet.

The identities of the persons involved will not be released.

This is the third bike fatality on rural roads over the past couple of years.

In April 2017, a 56-year-old female cyclist died on Township Road 120 after being hit by an SUV. Earlier that year in January, a male cyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle on South Boundary Road.
