Medicine Hat’s Dawson Murschell and partner John Part were eliminated from the Professional Darts Corporation’s World Cup of Darts following a 2-0 loss to Japan Sunday in Germany.

The setback comes after the Canadian duo of Murschell and Part defeated Italy by a 5-1 margin to open the tournament and advance to the round of 16.

Murschell placed the onus on himself, taking to Twitter after the loss to apologize to his country for the result. However, the rising 23-year-old darts star posted again a few hours later to express pride in his accomplishments and a desire to come back better than before.

“Had some time to reflect on the outcome of the World Cup and I’m still extremely proud to earn my spot on that World Cup team and get the amazing opportunity to represent my country and play with the legend @DarthMaple180 (Part) — all a learning experience and I will be back,” Murschell tweeted.

Japan went on to lose 2-0 to Scotland in the quarter-final. Scotland advanced to the championship game, but it was the Netherlands who clinched the World Cup of Darts with a 3-1 victory.
