Little more than a month in jail for woman guilty in car theft, curfew breach

Medicine Hat News A 37-day sentence was handed down Tuesday over a stolen car and curfew breach. Tammy Steimecke was granted 27 days credit for time already served in custody after entering pleas to theft under $5,000 and the breach. The facts alleged are that Steimecke had dropped by a friend’s house March 2, but they weren’t home — the neighbour and complainant, who knew Steimecke, let her stay overnight at their place. At 8 a.m. the next morning, she took the complainant’s 2009 Ford Taurus without permission, leaving a note saying she’d return it in an hour. By the time 4:30p.m. rolled around, the car had not been returned and the complainant went to the police. The vehicle was later found on March 13, abandoned at a gas station in Brooks. “Ms. Steimecke, you’re just starting to be a nuisance,” said Judge Gordan Krinke, warning that she’ll be spending more time in jail if she continues acting this way. 9-8
