Woman charged in city’s largest meth bust granted bail

prevell@medicinehatnews.com @MHNprevell Bail was granted Tuesday to a Medicine Hat woman charged with cocaine trafficking, as well as what police say is the largest meth bust on record for the city. With the agreement of the Crown, 47-year-old Shonna Scriven was released on a $5,000 surety put up by family, with whom she will reside with at an acreage in B.C., while under 24-hour house arrest and constant supervision Scriven was arrested Dec. 8, 2017 when police initiated a planned vehicle stop of the car she was driving just inside city limits on Highway 3. Police seized 1.02 kilograms of methamphetamine and 226 grams of cocaine, worth an estimated $125,000. She was granted release on $5,000 cash bail. But then she was taken into custody again as police wrapped up investigation into a “dial-a-dope” operation for cocaine trafficking that allegedly occurred between Dec. 2 and 5. It’s this investigation into trafficking that led police to the meth seizure on Dec. 8. She was charged with five new counts of trafficking, but until Tuesday had not sought bail on these charges. She was granted a temporary release in January to help plan and attend the funeral for her son in Lethbridge. With similar conditions, she completed this release with no breaches and returned back into custody as required by the end of the month. Scriven’s next court date is set for May 31. 9
