A woman characterized by police as a “mid-level” drug trafficker entered multiple guilty pleas Tuesday after her arrest by police where methamphetamine, oxycodine and carfentanil were seized.
Sentencing for Tameka Hazelaar has been delayed until July 5 so a presentencing report can be put together, or to see if the Hatter is accepted into drug treatment court in Calgary, which has a limited number of spaces.
According to the agreed statement of facts, police began investigating Hazelaar after receiving source information she was trafficking in methamphetamine and heroin — the investigation and arrest was one of many made by police throughout September 2017 as part of Operation Suppression.
On Sept. 28, police conducted surveillance on a local bar as source information was that Hazelaar was selling drugs on behalf of another man who was also at the bar.
Police entered the bar to arrest the pair, and in Hazelaar’s purse found a digital scale with meth residue, dime bags, and drugs packaged for sale.
This included four bags of meth weighing a total of 19.48 grams with a street value of $1,950.
Two bags of suspected heroin/fentanyl were analyzed as Carfentanil/Caffeine and weight .25 grams and .27 grams — which Hazelaar said she was not aware was carfentanil until it was analyzed by police.
Five oxycodone pills were seized, as well as 0.22 grams of methamphetamine that was for Hazelaar’s personal use.
Police opinion in the investigation was that Hazelaar was a mid-level trafficker, but also used meth and sold it to support her habit.
One of Hazelaar’s co-accused also entered a guilty plea Tuesday, but to simple possession instead of the trafficking charge originally laid against him.
Chad Cyr was sentenced to 36 days, time served, with the court hearing that the 30-year-old is attending school, and has a recovery program planned.
Cyr was arrested when police went into the bar to arrest Hazelaar and the other accused. When Hazelaar saw the police, she turned and gave Cyr items. When questioned by police, Cyr voluntarily removed a bag of about 1/2 an ounce of methamphetamine valued at $1,400 from his jeans pocket.
Hazelaar’s unlocked cell phone included numerous messages with Cyr about him purchasing drugs from her.
