The potential sale of CJCY radio in Medicine Hat is worth $4 million and wouldn’t involve a change of format, according to documents filed with the Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission.

Rogers Communications announced in mid-January it had an agreement to buy the local station from Lethbridge-based owner Clear Sky Radio Inc.

The sale was on condition it gained regulatory approval by the CRTC, which had the sale on its list of proceedings that are open for public comment this week. A deadline for submissions is set as April 26, ahead of a hearing scheduled for May 31.

Rogers is also applying to gain a new licence to operate the station under the same terms and conditions as those in effect under the current licence.

Rogers owns Rock 105 FM in Medicine Hat among 52 stations nationwide. Clear Sky owns a similarly branded station in Lethbridge along with a modern hit station in that city and a pop station in Cranbrook, B.C.

More information can be found at the CRTC’s website. The application number is 2017-1183-8.
