Medicine Hat’s peewee Tier 1 team is moving on after a wild playoff series against Airdrie.

In the Central Alberta Hockey League post-season, the Hounds hosted Airdrie for the first two games of the best-of-three.

On Friday, Airdrie scored shorthanded in the third, then Brodie Davis got the game-winner with seven seconds to go in a 3-2 decision at Hockey Hounds.

Medicine Hat beat Airdrie 4-2 Saturday at Canalta Centre, with Jeffrey Bullock’s eventual winner coming on a 5-on-3 in the third period. The host team had nine power plays to Airdrie’s four, with the visitors racking up 31 penalty minutes to the Hounds’ eight.

That forced Game 3, Sunday in Airdrie. The penalty situation was the opposite of Saturday, with the Hounds totalling 58 minutes in penalties to Airdrie’s 16 and Airdrie having 17 power plays to Medicine Hat’s seven.

Down 3-1 after giving up two power play goals in the second period (where power plays were 10-1 in Airdrie’s favour), the Hounds forced overtime with goals from Brennin Wereley and Josh Evaschesen, then won it with 3:25 left in the extra period on a Cardson Christianson goal.

Next up for the Hounds is the South championship series against Rocky Mountain.
