Bail was granted Tuesday to a Medicine Hat man arrested alongside nearly two dozen others last September as part of the Medicine Hat Police Service’s “Operation Suppression.”

Christopher Lasante, 20, appeared by closed-circuit TV from the Medicine Hat Remand Centre — with his lawyer securing release on $500 cash bail and family putting up $1,500 no-cash surety.

Under release conditions, Lasante will have to obey a 24/7 curfew while living at his mother’s in Lethbridge, abstain from drugs and alcohol and have no contact with a co-accused.

Lasante is charged with trafficking heroin, trafficking fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking heroin, possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl.

His next court appearance is set for March 8.

It was a brief court appearance Tuesday for a man arrested last week after police discovered multiple stolen vehicles and stolen firearms.

Gerald Thurber had his matters adjourned to March 13, as he remains in custody after having applied to legal aid, and is now waiting for counsel to be appointed.

The 49-year-old was arrested Feb. 14 after police received information regarding a possible stolen vehicle.

Police surveilled the area and located a truck stolen out of Brooks with a licence plate stolen from Sylvan Lake.

Further investigation led them to a truck stolen from Redcliff, which had nine stolen rifles inside — two loaded. Ammunition and stolen tools were also located inside this vehicle.

The value of both vehicles is estimated at $105,000, and the stolen rifles approximately $12,000.
